Fanny is one of the 30 orphans who completed her basic skill training

There were 4 skills that were taught in a period of 8 weeks in after school hours: beading, baking, sewing and crocheting. The children had a competition where they had two hours to sell the products they had made. Then the revenue of each team was counted and the team with the highest revenue won. In this case that was the baking team!

It was so exciting to witness this graduation and to just imagine that these young people (mostly teenagers) are able to make a profit for themselves. This training was started when Jackson was in Cameroon in January. We are so grateful to Julie, Aleksandra, Gracie, Hannah and Queenta for teaching these classes and for the other team members working with them and keeping the training going for 8 weeks.

My friend Julie and I had talked about Cameroon for a long time when we were still in Kona. As we squeezed 3 adults and 3 kids in the back of a taxi the other night we realized we were making the memories we had talked about. She and the team added so much creativity and discipleship to the skill training by having the participants write journals to track with their learning process. I was so impressed with their creativity and ideas on how to leave a lasting impact. No short term relief, but teaching them a way to a self-sustainable lifestyle.

2nd African Bible Safari Conference

Now the Second Pastors Conference of African Bible Safari has started. Rev Mua opened the conference and then Jackson spoke on the Kingdom of God. Why do we allow our culture to dictate our beliefs? What is Biblical and what is not? The pastors were really being challenged and are enjoying it.
On the third day he is speaking on why they preach what they preach. What is Bible and what is not? I am even being very challenged listening to this!

Our Family

The children and I have mostly taken time to adjust to the heat. Hope says her favorite part of Cameroon is that it is “nice and warm”. Kyndness thinks very differently and woke up many nights screaming angrily from all the sweating. He even had a fever for a few days. Thankfully we are now getting in a routine and even discovered there is a playground that was built here in the past 2 years. It is the first playground in the city and the children are just thrilled. REJoyce had a nasty accident when she stuck her finger in the fan. We are grateful she still has her finger, but the wound is painful.
