Aloha Cafeteria new furniture

Aloha Cafeteria new furniture

The University quarter has started with another group of students arriving to learn more about Jesus and His plan for their lives. During this last week we received the new Tables and Chairs in our new “Aloha Cafeteria” that was opened last fall. Anneke was involved in the process of purchasing these tables and so it was very exciting to see the result in reality. We all feel like we are eating in a restaurant every day!

SERMON

Our local church Ohana (family) here is called “Mokuaikaua” and this year we are celebrating its 195th anniversary! A big celebration will take place in April. Jackson was asked to preach last Sunday and he shared a message on the “cost of obeying the Holy Spirit”. He referred to Stephen (Acts 7+8) and also examples from our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world.

This gives me perspective to the truth of the Gospel. Things aren’t always easy and so many have paid the price with their lives… At the moment there are thousands being killed in Nigeria for their faith. Is our faith that real to us? Are we keeping God’s perspective on life or being tangled up in our worries and pursuits of “idle things”….? My desire is to press in to more of God and a deeper intimacy with Him.

SEMINAR

This weekend Jackson is following a seminar called “Blessing the Generations” also held in our church. I am still curious to find out what he is learning there, but it’s definitely a new season for us as we think about this coming year. Now that Kona is our home, how can we invest in relationships, the campus community, our church Ohana and how can we lay a good foundation for our children.

We are enjoying an incredibly fun time with the Kokua Crew (=volunteers) that we oversee at the GO center. Each morning we have devotions with them and are able to share the Bible as well as personal testimonies and dreams. It is refreshing to work with people who are hungry for Jesus and have given up 3 months of their regular lives to serve our campus in this way. Hope had the most fun time with them joining them in cleaning one of the guest rooms. She practices the same skills around the house which is really nice :-).

Hope & REJoyce & baby Ndecheck

REJoyce or “edocye” as she calls herself is getting more and more vocal and now also recognizes her friends and knows some of their names. She loves to explore and push her stroller and baby around everywhere. She is already able to sing all the Keiki Corner songs (though this is actually Hope’s class) and I believe she thinks she is a full member of the group (though she is only allowed to come on days when it is my turn to serve). She will deliberately sit all by herself and do what the “big kids” are doing. It is very adorable.

Hope is getting more and more creative and able to draw actual faces and write letters. She looooooovves chalk. Thankfully this is a very inexpensive hobby to practice. All you need are slabs of concrete of which there are plenty around campus 🙂

Baby Ndecheck is growing well- very soon we will have our 20 week ultrasound. This is always one of my pregnancy highlights. I am feeling plenty of movements in my stomach so we are eager to see.

More news next month!
