This was a 3-day seminar for Kids ages 8-12 that ended with an actual event that the children organized throughout the week. The event was a “Keiki meets Kupuna Coffee time” where we had invited the elders on our campus to come and fellowship and share hospitality stories from their years in YWAM.
In total 19 children took the seminar and I was really impressed at their attentiveness, eagerness to learn, help and their excitement as well.
On Monday it was really teaching heavy as we dove into the scriptures to see what the Bible says about hospitality. After this I went through Event Planning steps that start of with defining the Vision for the event- Why is it happening? what’s the purpose? And then we prayed and asked the Lord what He wanted to say about the event and the details. re-occuring words they got was that it should be a tropical theme, green and white and a long table.
With this new information we dove into a teaching on “how to make a budget.” And one of the exercises was planning a shopping trip for the food for the event.
on Day 2 we had two workshops- My friend and coworker Mary went through how to make flower arrangements where they children made tropical center pieces for the event. My other friend and coworker Katie did a workshop on how to make place setting cards where they wrote names and scriptures for the guests that would be coming.
Then I taught on Hostmanship as well as Table manners.
on Day 3 they spent the morning making leis and learning about food presentation. The menu was charcuterie boards with veggies & Dip plus a dessert trio that was served during the event.
The children did everything. Their creativity was really impressive. I am going to add some more photos to enjoy. Kyndness decided to make a lion with his crackers and I don’t think I have ever seen that before either.
Each child had also been given a specific task- to either welcome, greet, give a lei, make coffee, serve dessert, pray etc. It went so well and it was such a fun time.
This seminar was something the Lord put on my heart at the beginning of the April quarter and it was a big step of faith to put it into practice, but I have to admit I really enjoyed doing this!
