Au revoir Opa
On September 15th I was able to attend the funeral of my grandfather who lived a long life and went to be with Jesus while sleeping at age 95. I was so grateful to be able to go to Holland during this time and spend time with my family.
I spent most of my time with my parents, sister, brother and grandmother. Sharing memories, praying and talking. The ceremony was beautiful and I was able to play Bach’s Air on my flute per my grandfather’s request a long time ago.
It was also interesting to learn things about my grandfather I wasn’t so aware of. For example; I knew he was a teacher and school director, but it turns out he revolutionized education in the Netherlands. He brought playful learning styles and “hands on” approach into the schools, which were then adopted everywhere. He also started the library in his town in order to bring more development through reading. It was special to share memories with my cousins, aunt and uncle who I hadn’t seen for a long time.
It was also special to spend the day with my siblings and parents like we used to before we moved out.
Then on my last day in the Netherlands I was able to hold my 1 month old niece Tessa Klugkist and rock her to sleep. This was so precious!
No Jet Lag
The absolute miracle of my trip is that I did not have any jet lag. I went to bed at 11pm and woke up at 6:30am every day like I would in Hawaii. Then when I returned back to Kona last Sunday I had the same miracle coming back. God is so faithful! What a blessing.
Since then the children and my husband have enjoyed having mummy back. Jackson did amazing of course taking care of 3 children on his own. Yes we sure did miss each other but I am very grateful I had this opportunity.
Thank you for your prayers and support!
